Artistic Anatomy
Teaching programme

PROGRAMME
The course aims to provide useful tools for the appreciation and production of works in which anatomical information is the subject of artistic expression. The learning pathway focuses on the fundamental relationships between art and science, starting with an analysis of structures, apparatuses and systems, both morphologically and artistically, and progressing to areas of research in which the anatomical concept of the artist’s work is imbued with symbolic and conceptual meaning. The anatomical-functional analysis of structures gives rise to a personalised study that is open to individual aptitudes, in which the anatomical approach focuses on the expressive dimension of anthropo-zoo-phytomorphic representation, particularly at the formal and interpretative levels, with the aim of identifying innovative ways of communicating the anatomical image. The fundamentals of the subject are presented in lectures, through observations and analyses based on specially prepared demonstrative and multimedia materials, as well as on the teaching materials provided by the Academy. Specifically, the theoretical component will cover the topics specific to each year, while at the same time, the reviews of the students’ work will include in-depth analysis and discussion of the technical and creative aspects of the work produced by the student.
Analyses will be conducted to explore the complex relationships between art and anatomical expression in the context of contemporaneity and artistic techniques. The relationship between morphological and artistic aspects also receives particular attention, including through the examination of the work of various artists and maestros. Digital resources on topics of educational interest can be accessed on the website http://maliadidattica.altervista.org/ or via the video recordings of the theoretical lectures stored on the Teams platform. The recommended reading list provided during the lectures.
The exam comprises a theoretical section and the practical production of a portfolio containing a minimum of seven works, measuring 50 × 70 cm or other agreed dimensions and formats, which have been produced and reviewed as part of the course lectures.

First year of the Three-Year First-Level Programme
The basic training provided focuses primarily on the presentation of bone and joint structures, the development and structuring of drawings, and the associated challenges.

First Year, Fashion Design, Three-Year Programme, First Level
The human body, proportions and the creation of a personalised figurine model, reflections on anthropometry, kinesics and proxemics. Development of an anatomically inspired project within the context of fashion culture.

Second year of the First-Level Three-Year Course
Topics will focus on the presentation of anatomical myological structures, leading to the creation of drawings using various techniques.

Third year of the First-Level Three-Year Course
The topics covered will focus on an in-depth exploration of the external human form and, from an execution perspective, on technically diverse and experimental artistic creations.

Two-year course, Second level
The course will address issues related to the composition of the work of art and its intrinsic components, in relation to anatomical representation in pose and space, and in line with the exploration and refinement of students’ artistic identities.
