The Historical Archive of the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome preserves the documentation produced since the origins of the institution as the R. Istituto di Belle Arti – R.D. June 1874 – relating to the various activities carried out by the Academy through a long and varied institutional history. The archive reflects this situation and is particularly complex: the reorganisation work that reveals the original structure of the archive itself is nearing completion and has already made it possible, and will make it possible, to bring to light, recover and enhance a heritage that is in many ways still unpublished, which will soon be made available in its entirety to all users and researchers who request to consult it.
These are the main archival series:
– Classified documents (with a core of papers relating to the National Artistic Boarding School)
– Professors
– Students
– Awards and final competitions
– Various registers
The Archive is located on the ground floor of the historic building in Via di Ripetta, is equipped with an ARCHIUI digital inventory (which can be consulted on site), and is accessible to scholars by arranging an appointment with the contact person and upon request to the address: archivio@abaroma.it
