Darkroom Workshop – Giant Prints
The Darkroom Workshop (printing techniques for giant prints) held by Luciano Corvaglia and organised by the “Photography and Video” course at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome ended with the exhibition of the students’ works at “Les Rencontres de Photographie” in Arles.
The 50-hour workshop was held at the photographic studio of the TAG, Tevere Art Gallery in Rome, where the more than 20 participating students learned the various techniques and little
secrets of darkroom printing: developing negatives, printing and masking, developing, spotting, hot gluing and framing. The prints were all made on baryta B/W paper starting from the 70×100 format.
The works produced by the students were all subsequently exhibited in Arles in one of the galleries of the “Les Rencontres de Photographie” circuit – one of the most prestigious international photography festivals – where the students themselves took part in the stages of setting up and managing the exhibition, interacting with the visitors. The students also took advantage of the opportunity offered by a festival full of initiatives and exhibitions, actively visiting and participating in the various events.
As for the exhibition of the workshop’s works, they received good reviews from the public and critics, so much so that a selection of the same works will be exhibited at the invitation of the director himself at the Todi Photography Festival next autumn.
The Exhibition “Le Nu dans la Chambre Noir” was created through the collaboration between the ACADEMY OF FINE ARTS IN ROME and the TAG – TEVERE ART GALLERY in Rome.
The students of the Academy attended a course held by Luciano Corvaglia and Prof. Ernani Paterra during which, starting with analogue shots, they went on to print their own giant prints on baryta paper using silver salts.
After the Arles stop, the exhibition arrives, at the invitation of the director Marcello Mencarelli, at TODI IMMAGINA.
