Wednesday 19 May 2021 The group exhibition by international artists opens at AlbumArte, an independent space for contemporary art. Lucia Bricco, Diana Legel, Aura Monsalves Muñoz, Juliane Schmidt, Diana Sirianni, Maria Giovanna Sodero, Alexandra Wolframm and Wang Ximan entitled A MISURA (TO MEASURE) curated by Donatella Landi, which will be open to the public, in accordance with health regulations, until 25 June 2021. The exhibition was produced with the support of the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome.
Donatella Landi, visual artist and lecturer, here in her capacity as curator, brings together for this group exhibition a group of artists of various nationalities, who currently live and work in Germany, Greece, China and Italy and who, at different times, were her students at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome. The exhibition explores approaches, visions and techniques that are distant from each other, but what unites the works presented, although “formally” dissimilar, is the focus on the body as a unit of measurement, a vehicle for experiencing the world.
As the curator’s critical text states: “The spatial tension in the works presented in this exhibition creates a circular assonance, thanks to a continuous triangulation of thought and expressed positions, in a rebound of opposing similarities; it acts as a strong point to redefine the physical and emotional relationship with the work. Redesigning the world through the measurement of the self becomes a metaphor for the revealing process of art. Video, painting, drawing, performance and public actions are structures of thought; not only media but mental substance, complex geographies of observation and measurement that allow us to redefine the space around us. Because it is art that gives shape to the things of the world. (..)
The body is the measure of the drawings by Diana Legel, architect of modern temples, of the performances/actions by Lucia Bricco, Wang Ximan and Diana Sirianni, who redesign space through the body, of the analysis of the “simple” mechanisms of the work’s construction process (Juliane Schmidt), of the observation of nature, memory and disappearance (Aura Monsalves Muñoz, Alexandra Wolframm, Maria Giovanna Sodero). This exhibition presents works that are not formally, but intimately similar, because they all investigate the complexity of our relationship with the world, memory, nature and pain, transforming conflict into an instrument of knowledge” (…)
The exhibition, promoted by the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome, will be accompanied by a catalogue that will be presented at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome and the German Academy in Rome Villa Massimo.
