Event – Percorso d’Arte a Castiglione (3rd Edition)

INTERNATIONAL SCULPTURE SYMPOSIUM & COESIONE CONTEMPORARY ART EXHIBITION

The Percorso d’Arte a Castiglione Art Exhibition, which is presented at Palazzo Patrizi Clementi, is a project promoted by the Municipality of Palombara Sabina, together with Oriana Impei, sculptor and lecturer of the Sculpture Course at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome, and in collaboration with the officials of the Superintendence.
Held in May 2019, this initiative is the continuation of the first edition in 2012 and the second edition in 2017, conceived by the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome, in collaboration with the Monti Lucretili Regional Natural Park, and which saw the permanent placement of twelve sculptures in Roman Travertine in 2012, arranged along the path that leads to the ruins of ancient Castiglione, and seven works in the area in 2017.
The international success of the project in the 2012-2017 editions, which received an honourable mention in the Council of Europe Landscape Prize in 2014/15, prompted the Palombara Sabina Administration to continue along this path of promoting the local area with the third edition that is now being presented.
This year’s exhibition was attended by some students of the ACADEMY OF FINE ARTS IN ROME with the Sculpture Course – contact person Prof. Oriana IMPEI – and of the UNIVERSIDAD CATÓLICA DE TEMUCO-CHILE, contact person Professor Leonardo Cravero González.
All the works, inspired by the theme of the four elements of nature, have been placed in significant points in the territory of Palombara Sabina: from an educational perspective, the Playground was chosen, where the work INFINITO by the Chinese artist HAN LEI and KONG by the Chinese artist TIAN JAPENG, students of the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome, and IL CIELO, QUI’ E SOTTO DI NOI by the German artist Sophia Louise Roggenkamp, on an Erasmus programme in Rome, are located. In visual connection with these sculptures, on the theme of the relationship between nature and landscape, on a cubic building in front of the municipal gym are the murals Il Parco dei Monti Lucretili by the Chileans Isadora Iturriaga and Josè Luis Monsalve and Autunno nel Parco by the Iranian Adeleh Salehi, in collaboration with Mahbobe Safari and Reza Tavakolli and the mural I Monti Lucretili by the Italian Francesca Folchi in collaboration with Chiara Pauletta and Alessandra Scafati. In Palombara, next to the Tourist Information Point, is the work GEOMETRI COINVOLTA by the Chilean Cesar Manque Godoy, and also in Palombara, in the garden of the Park Authority, is I LIMITI UMANI by the Spaniard David Algeciras LIopis, on Erasmus in Rome.
1 km from Palombara, in the area in front of the thousand-year-old olive tree, is the wood and travertine sculpture FRAMMENTO IDILLIACO by the Chilean Isadora Iturriaga.
Located at the beginning of the Art Trail in Castiglione, in the heart of the Natural Park, is L’INIZIO DELLA FORESTA by Chilean artist Josè Luis Monsalve; in the Terme Sabine in Cretone, placed on a natural rock, is BAGNANTE by Amedeo Porru, a terracotta female figure linked to the theme of water.
In the square of the new municipal pharmacy in Marzolano, a hamlet of Palombara Sabina, BUSTO DI DONNA by Federica Morittu.
The permanently installed works were selected by a prestigious committee at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome, which included the Superintendency officials Dr Isabella Del Frate and the architect Valentina Milano.
The sculptures, created on a large scale using local Roman travertine, were carved from blocks of about four tonnes each and sculpted by the sculptors at the open-air workshop in Palombara Sabina. Pine wood was also used for this edition.
The entire Art Trail, which opened at the end of June 2019, was followed by a large number of visitors.
In connection with the symposium, an exhibition entitled COESIONE 2019 was held at the Castello Savelli in the Sala Ottaviani, where a conference entitled ARCHITETTURA E ARTE NELLA NATURA was held, organised with the Order of Architects P.P.C. of Rome and Province. The Coesione Exhibition continued on a touring basis throughout the summer at the Casa dell’Architettura, formerly the Acquario Romano, in Rome as part of the La Città in una Casa exhibition. The various initiatives of the entire Art Exhibition were documented with a Video published by: Olive Media and an
ART CATALOGUE edited by Oriana IMPEI with critical texts by Ada Lombardi, printed by GANGEMI EDITORE.
