Antonello Tolve: Art in the art market
The last of the six meetings of Colours and crafts of the multimedia arts, curated by Elena Giulia Rossi as part of the School of New Technologies for Art.
On Tuesday 18 April (Campo Boario site, room 8b), the critic and curator Antonello Tolve will start from the difficult and very varied (sometimes even enigmatic and in some respects laughable) planetary model of an art market that, in recent decades, has expanded its horizons to new realities and new forms-formulas of human creativity. The talk aims to bring out places of resistance and adherence, interstitial spaces of compromise and any other escape routes that point to forms of recognition that do not fall within the all-encompassing universe of commodification (of prostration, of instrumental prostitution) and without falling into the idea of a work to be understood as a mere object with aesthetic value.
Antonello Tolve is a full professor of Pedagogy and Art Education at the Academy of Fine Arts in Naples. He holds a PhD in Methods and Methodologies of Archaeological and Art-Historical Research (University of Salerno) and is on the scientific committee of the Leonardo Sinisgalli Foundation, the Menna Foundation and Umática (Universidad de Málaga). Since 2018, he has been director of the Fondazione Filiberto e Bianca Menna and since 2020, he has been a member of the Archivio Lamberto Pignotti. Among his numerous publications are: Gillo Dorfles (La Città del Sole, 2011), ABOrigine. The Art of Art Criticism (Postmedia, 2012), La linea socratica dell’arte contemporanea (Quodlibet, 2016), Me, myself and I. Arte e vetrinizzazione sociale ovvero il mondo magico del selfie (Castelvecchi, 2019), Lamberto Pignotti. Cronaca di tutti i fiori esclusi dal perimetro di un fiore (KappaBit, 2020), Basilicata. A story of contemporary art (Silvana, 2023).
Art in the art market is part of Colours and Crafts of the Multimedia Arts, organised by Elena Giulia Rossi, a series of meetings organised as part of the School of New Technologies for Art to investigate the multiple facets of multimedia production, from the creative moment to its conservation and placement on the market, through the most diverse experiences of artists, curators, computer scientists and theorists. With the most varied backgrounds, they have all been active on the international multimedia arts scene for more than twenty years, united by a constant commitment to both theory and practice.
For those enrolled in the School of New Technologies for Art, the series entitles participants to 1 CFA (upon attendance at 5 out of 6 meetings)
