After the first meeting with Marco Cadioli, the series continues with two more events:
Marco Mancuso: Art and artificial intelligence
Wednesday 25 January, 3:30 pm – 5:30 pm, online on Teams
Anna Maria Monteverdi: The anarchive of the teknoartist Giacomo Verde
Thursday 26 January, 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm, in person at Campo Boario, Room 1A
Marco Mancuso, active since the 1990s as a curator, theorist and, since 2005, founder and editor of the magazine Digicult, as part of research focused on forms of contamination with techno-scientific research and in dialogue with “other” disciplinary languages, defines the contours of AI Art through a journey full of references, reflections and case studies. Mancuso will delve into the aesthetic, poetic and expressive research of the relationship between art and computational systems with increasing autonomy and new forms of authorship. He will introduce the evolution of the person-machine relationship and the unlimited productive possibilities between forms of organic and inorganic intelligence and the possible cultural and cognitive biases, with the aim of a different relational ethics and new frontiers and unthought-of dimensions of research and the market.
Anna Maria Monteverdi will lead participants on a journey into the heart of the experimentation of the ‘teknoartist’ Giacomo Verde. Reflecting by playfully experimenting on the techno-anthropological mutations taking place and creating connections between the different artistic genres have been the hallmarks of the artist’s creative approach. This playful and experimental attitude has led him to be the initiator of genres such as the ‘tele-story’, a theatrical performance that combines narration, micro-theatre and live macro-shooting (a technique also used for live video-backdrops in concerts, poetry recitals and theatrical performances), and the author of pioneering ‘oper’ations’ of net art, video art, tekno-performances, theatrical performances, installations and educational workshops.
Marco Mancuso is a contemporary art critic and curator, in the relationship with technology and science and in dialogue with the fields of design, architecture and sound. A lecturer at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Bergamo, the University of Bologna and the Node Center for Curatorial Studies in Berlin, he holds a PhD in Digital Cultures from the Iuav University of Venice. For about twenty years, he has been interested in how interdisciplinary discourse observes the different ways in which technoscience influences society and the relationship between human beings and the environment, while at the same time studying the evolution of the design, production and market dynamics of media art and digital art. He is the author of Arte, tecnologia e scienza, Mimesis 2018 and of Intervista con la New Media Art. L’osservatorio digicult tra arte, design e cultura digitale, Mimesis 2020.
Anna Maria Monteverdi is an expert in Digital Performance, Associate Professor of Theatre History at the State University of Milan (Department of Cultural and Environmental Heritage) and lecturer in Multimedia Dramaturgy and History of Scenography. She is the founder and director of the academic journal Connessioni remote, dedicated to Art, Technological Theatre and Artivism. She has published: Leggere uno spettacolo multimediale (Dino Audino, 2020), Memoria, maschera e macchina nel teatro di Robert Lepage (Meltemi, 2018), Nuovi media, nuovo teatro (FrancoAngeli, 2011), Rimediando il teatro con le ombre, le macchine, i new media (Giacché, 2014) and, with Andrea Balzola, Le arti multimediali digitali (Garzanti, 2004-2019). She is the curator of the exhibition Giacomo Verde. Liberare Arte da Artisti (Sp, Camec, 2022).
The series of meetings “Colours and Crafts of the Multimedia Arts”, organised by Elena Giulia Rossi, is organised as part of the School of New Technologies for Art to investigate the multiple facets of multimedia production, from the creative moment to its conservation and placement on the market, through the most diverse experiences of artists, curators, computer scientists and theorists. With the most varied backgrounds, they have all been active on the international multimedia arts scene for more than twenty years, united by a constant commitment to both theory and practice.
The series entitles participants to 1 CFA (upon attendance at 5 out of 6 meetings)
