Group exhibition curated by the Palestine Museum US and promoted by the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome and the MedArtandCultures association.
On 4 February, the Colleoni Hall will host the opening of FROM PALESTINE WITH ART, a group exhibition curated by the Palestine Museum US and promoted by the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome and the MedArtandCultures association.
The exhibition, already presented as a side event of the 2022 Venice Biennale, is a project of the Palestine Museum US, the first Palestinian museum in the West. Love for his country led Faisal Saleh, director of the museum, to collect a selection of works, testimonies and documentation of the traditional and contemporary Palestinian art scene.
The exhibition itinerary of FROM PALESTINE WITH ART introduces visitors to the history, traditions and culture of Palestine through art, looking to the present and imagining the future.
The nineteen participating artists, who live both in Palestine and in other countries, reflect on the deepest aspects of their country’s culture, without being influenced by the current socio-political complexity. Their works – paintings, photographs, sculptures, and installations – tell us the Palestinian story through the arts.
FROM PALESTINE WITH ART highlights the desire of the Palestinian people to assert inalienable rights through the language of art, giving life and colour to their political vision. The artists use well-known symbols and concepts such as the keffiyeh, the historical map of Palestine, female identity, the diaspora and the changing landscape; elements that passionately and consciously tell the story of a people’s culture and strength.
The exhibition is organised in collaboration with MedArtandCulture, a non-profit association that sees the Mediterranean as a pool of ideas and creativity and supports the dissemination of knowledge and cultural identities as a contribution to overcoming stereotypes and building a new civilisation of living together based on principles of freedom and social justice.
On the opening day, the soprano Zeina Barhoum, accompanied by the pianist Marcos Madrigal, will perform a short repertoire of Palestinian and Italian songs.
