On 10 March at 4:30 pm, the presentation of the doctoral programme of national interest in Cultural Heritage Sciences will take place in the Great Hall of the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome.
The Doctoral Programme sees the Academy in Rome in partnership with the Tor Vergata University of Rome and in particular with the Department of History, Cultural Heritage, Education and Society; the Department of Literary, Philosophical and Art History Studies; and the Department of Civil Engineering and Computer Engineering. Members of the consortium also include the Accademie di Belle Arti of Florence, Catania, Lecce and Macerata; the ISIA of Rome; the Università Telematica Internazionale “Uninettuno”, the Fondazione MAXXI and the Istituto Superiore per la Protezione e la Ricerca Ambientale (ISPRA).

Coordinated by Giovan Battista Fidanza, Full Professor of History of Modern Art at the Tor Vergata University of Rome, the Doctorate includes four training courses: Art, Archaeology, History and Restoration; History and Conservation of Built Heritage; Promotion of Cultural and Environmental Heritage; New Media for Communication and Promotion of Artistic Heritage, curated by the Academies in Rome, Florence, Lecce and Catania (curriculum manager Dalma Frascarelli, Professor of History of Modern Art at the Academy in Rome).
The Doctorate has been accredited by ANVUR, which has assessed the AFAM institutions and the scientific and artistic profile of their professors, who form the doctoral colleges and have set up the examination boards together with their university colleagues, as suitable, admitting 8 doctoral students to the course who have completed their level II training at the Academies and ISIA.

It is therefore a historic achievement that for the first time establishes the recognition of the research activities carried out at the AFAM institutions and that sees an equal relationship of collaboration between them and the university system.

Out of 27 National Doctorates, the only one that makes use of the participation of the Academies and ISIA is also one of the two dedicated to Cultural Heritage. A further strength of this Doctorate, which therefore boasts several firsts, is the interdisciplinary nature of the training courses, which involve multimedia artists, graphic designers, designers, engineers and architects, alongside art historians and restorers, in the areas of protection, enhancement and communication. This synergy of knowledge is essential to meet the challenge of revitalising our country based on the aspects that most characterise it: beauty and specialisation in the protection, restoration, promotion and communication of cultural and artistic heritage. For this reason too, in order to continue a strategic training activity in national terms, the AFAM institutions, which in the current cycle of doctorates have participated with their own funding, hope that for the next cycle the MUR will also provide funding for scholarships to academies and ISIA institutions with PNRR funds,, pending the issuance of the decree on AFAM doctorates.

The presentation will feature a speech by Guido Curto, Director of the Consorzio Residenze Reali Sabaude, a museum entity that has distinguished itself for its use of new technologies, hosting, among other things, the recent exhibition Play. Videogame art and beyond. Also speaking will be Fabio Viola, curator of the aforementioned exhibition and president of TuoMuseo,, an international collective of artists, game designers, developers, sound designers and 3D animators, will also speak. TuoMuseo is a leading European organisation in the design and implementation of interactive experiences, with numerous projects created for major institutions, such as the game Father and Son for the National Archaeological Museum of Naples, which has been a worldwide success.
The presentation will be opened by greetings from the Director of the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome, Cecilia Casorati, followed by a speech by Tullia Iori, Vice-Rector for Teaching at the Tor Vergata University of Rome. Dalma Frascarelli will moderate.
