On Tuesday 10 and Wednesday 11 May 2022, at 9:00 pm, at the Teatro Arcobaleno in Rome, a new production by the Academy of Fine Arts will be staged, directed by the play “Ritornanti”, performed and directed by Enzo Moscato, with the students of the set design course of the Academy of Fine Arts, together with Giuseppe Affinito, Emilio Massa and Anita Mosca.
“Ritornanti”, a recital taken from “Spiritilli”, “Rondò” and “Cartesiana”, is the final performance of the Theatre Workshop and Staging Project of the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome, conceived by Prof. Raffaele Golino and produced with the collaboration of Enzo Moscato’s Casa del Contemporaneo Theatre Company, which also involved the lecturers in the original creation of the scenes and costumes.

The idea of holding a theatre workshop came from the desire of the Academy’s Director, Cecilia Casorati, and from the need to offer students a live, direct experience with the professionals of the performing arts, allowing the students to gain a poetic and practical knowledge of the craft through a workshop and staging pathway with Enzo Moscato, considered one of the most important contemporary playwrights on the Italian scene. The project involved the teachers of the Academy of Fine Arts, Prof. Sabrina Pistilli and Prof. Antonella Marotta, who provided organisational support for the staging, two workshops, the virtual scenography workshop directed by Pasquale Direse and the costume workshop, which benefited from the supervision of costume designer Marina Sciarelli, both of whom were workshop coordinators. The students worked actively on the realisation of the practical project, to which the director’s guidelines were added.

Director’s notes
Re-returning, re-tracing, re-feeling, re-pronouncing, is perhaps the attitude I practise most, and most often, with my theatre work. Especially in the aftermath of the premiere of a new show, when, perhaps, (and miraculously) I have managed to fine-tune some significant turning point, formal or thematic, along my not always linear dramaturgical journey: some new break, some new gamble, some unprecedented desire for a linguistic “wound” or leap into the unknown void of the “expressive” (I gladly borrow this term from Anna Maria Ortese). After all, no word already spoken should ever be abandoned in the theatre. No movement, no gesture, no breath, already experienced, should be considered finished, defined, deprived of authority. Dead. The nomadism of research, the continuous shifting of the limit through its territories, should never be separated from the reassuring, natural act of always carrying one’s own things, one’s own past, one’s own ideological or grammatical household goods: steps already taken, paths already trodden, infections and evils already experienced, or, perhaps, who knows? By what grace or inscrutable misfortune, already escaped, never had. Not to reproduce them, of course, as they are or as they have been, but to do exactly the opposite: to make them act, breathe, struggle, alongside or within our changed, new spirit; alongside or within our different way of understanding or perceiving them, and, with them, with these “other” feelings, to invest them, nourish them, give them life. In a word: to love them again. And, through us, to hope that the public too will be struck by the same, identical, irresistible “coup de foudre”. [Enzo Moscato]
