Conference/discussion in preparation for Holocaust Remembrance Day on 27 January
Alfredo Pirri – Introduction to the Shoah and the image
Marco Brandizzi – The camps as a celebration of the modern factory
Claudio Libero Pisano – Restoring the works of art stolen from the Jews
In anticipation of 27 January, the date of Holocaust Remembrance Day, which commemorates the victims of the Holocaust and the liberation of the Auschwitz extermination camp by Red Army troops, a conference/discussion will be held during which three professors from the chairs (gathered for this occasion) of Painting, Decoration and Contemporary Museology will discuss with those present, seeking to raise some questions that are usually little addressed on the occasion of this commemoration. Some of the topics covered are: the relationship between memory, history and works of art, or the relationship between the design and architectural structure of the camps and that of modern and contemporary industry, or the still open question of the restitution of works of art looted by the Nazis and Fascists to the detriment of Jewish families robbed of the works of artists who were often their contemporaries.
