Transizioni, a collective exhibition by the students of the Academy

Press Release

The Transizioni exhibition is the final phase of an artistic production project focusing on the relationship between Art and Nature, carried out with the students of the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome over three years, from 2019 to 2021, curated by lecturers Anna Maria Maiorano (Decoration – Environmental Art and Experimental Languages) and Flavia Matitti (History of Contemporary Art). During this period, the students had the opportunity to explore in depth a number of themes related to the environment, ecology and artistic practices, experimenting with techniques and languages that were often completely new to them: herbaria, planting diaries, illustrated books for children, audio-visual media, recycling of plastic materials, performances and environmental decoration projects.
The exhibition brings together a selection of works created by twenty-five students chosen from all those who, over the last three years, have taken the course in Decoration, Environmental Art and Experimental Languages. With the title Transizioni, the intention was to allude to a process of transformation, to a change of state, to a time that is suspended but not immobile. The term, in fact, evokes the passage from one way of being to another, so it can refer to the different phases of plant life (germination, flowering, fruit ripening and senescence) – which is the subject of many of the works on display – but also to the existential condition experienced by human beings, particularly during the lockdown period, another theme present in the exhibition. And of course, the word brings to mind the new Ministry for Ecological Transition, which was established this year. Moreover, since this is a group exhibition by students on the three-year course and the two-year course, the term also alludes to the different state of the works on display, which testify to an ongoing journey, typical of those who are still in training.
The exhibition will feature works by Giuseppina Bellino, Sharon Caratelli, Yuhan Chen, Katia Colaianni, Francesco De Luca, Giorgia Errera, Yilu Gao, Roberto Grilli, Bing Han, Yiting Han, Zhao Huihui, Morunzhu Jiang, Xueyan Liang, Matteo Maria Molducci, Lucia Paparello, Antonia Parente, Ma Qiaonan, Na Tan, Yue Wang, Yanxi Wei, Jiaji Zhang, Luqi Zhang, Yujie Zhang, Jiaqi Zeng, Mao Zitong.

The exhibition opens on Thursday 1 July at 3:00 pm, with limited admissions until 6:30 pm. In the following days, the exhibition will be open to visitors from Monday to Friday, from 10:00 am to 6:30 pm. Admission will be limited and regulated on site by the access control staff, in full compliance with the rules in force.
