The Volume! Foundation was established in 1997 in a glassworks in Trastevere, and immediately took off as a metamorphic space and an international scientific research project, aimed at exploring the cognitive and emotional aspects stimulated by the observation of works of art. The journey of Volume!, conceived by neurosurgeon Francesco Nucci and since 1997 an anomalous space, unique in its kind, preserves the intense relationship with the artists and the site-specific works created, capable of promoting the direct relationship between the artist and the viewer. Alongside and as a corollary to the exhibitions, Volume! has a dynamic reflective-educational activity, which it carries out through a series of events that include art and architecture and that are developed through teaching, talks, conferences, public meetings, and joint initiatives with universities and academies.
In the meeting, Francesco Nucci will talk about the Foundation’s 25 years of intense experience and amazing artistic and scientific activities. From 1997 to the present day, Volume! has hosted and collaborated with leading artists from the international scene such as Jannis Kounellis, Jimmie Durham, Carsten Nicolai, Ernesto Neto, Gregor Schneider, Sol Lewitt, Gianfranco Baruchello, Carlos Garaicoa, Santiago Sierra, Sissi, Pedro Cabrita Reis, Bruna Esposito, Myriam Laplante, Langlands & Bell, Paolo Canevari, Olaf Nicolai, Christian Boltaski, Carla Accardi, Miroslaw Balka and Alfredo Pirri, Fabio Mauri and many others. By intervening in the space, the artists have helped to make Volume! a territory in progress, capable of continuously and unpredictably redesigning itself.
