Force majeure
Force majeure means: any unforeseeable and exceptional situation or event, beyond the control of the parties, which prevents the fulfilment of one or more obligations under the Agreement, not attributable to the fault or negligence of one of the parties.
Incoming Erasmus+ mobility
Foreign students currently in Italy as part of the Erasmus+ programme who intend to return to their country of origin can do so as provided for by the aforementioned Prime Ministerial Decrees.
Students are also invited to take due account of the guidance provided by the Italian Foreign Ministry (http://www.viaggiaresicuri.it/home).
It should also be noted that assistance can be provided by their embassies and consulates in Italy.
For Erasmus students who are already here and do not intend to take advantage of the option to return early, having planned a year-long mobility period, we would like to inform you that we are activating e-learning, which will presumably start after the end of the exam session. Obviously, it will be mainly the theoretical courses that will take place on the platform, while other teaching methods are being considered for the practical sessions, but it is hoped that in-person lectures will resume soon.
All updates are published on the Erasmus Academy of Fine Arts in Rome Facebook group and on the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome Student Council page. To be able to use the e-learning platform, you must request your credentials from m.peluso@abaroma.it
All certificates relating to Erasmus mobility are sent by email from the Erasmus Office.
All international Erasmus students who intend to go back home can do so, as prescribed by the Government’s decrees. They can also decide to postpone or interrupt their placement. In any case, they can have their mobility confirmed for the first semester of next year, if their Institution agrees to do so. They are also invited to keep in mind all information provided by our Foreign Ministry (http://www.viaggiaresicuri.it/home).
They can also get assistance from the Embassy of their home country. Erasmus students who are already here and do not wish to come back home because they had planned an annual mobility must be informed that we are working on a platform for e-learning classes which will start at the end of March, after the exam session. It is clear that the majority of e-classes will be the theoretical ones. For studios, it is more difficult, and we hope to re-open as soon as possible.
All updates are published on our Facebook group “Erasmus Academy of Fine Arts in Rome” and on the page of the “Academy of Fine Arts in Rome Student Council”.
To access the platform for e-learning, they have to obtain the institutional credential by writing to m.peluso@abaroma.it
This interruption of teaching activity will not affect their mobility in any way and the entire duration will be recognised. All Erasmus certificates will be sent by email by the Erasmus Office.
Please remember that if you decide to stay in Rome, you have to respect all the requirements decided by the Italian Government and go out only for reasons of necessity. You’ll also need a self-certification stating the reason for your being outside.

Outgoing Erasmus+ mobility
Students currently on mobility
Students who are currently on Erasmus mobility can continue their mobility at the host institution. Any interruptions to teaching activities due to the Covid-19 emergency will not be considered as periods of interruption to mobility and the EU grants will be maintained, recognising the period of mobility actually carried out, giving the opportunity to resume mobility later, subject to agreement between the parties and with timelines and methods to be determined. The interruption period is not calculated for the purposes of the minimum duration of the mobility period, but will be calculated for the purposes of the maximum period of 12 months provided for Erasmus+ Mobility
Any voluntary quarantine period requested by the host institution may be recognised as a mobility period (the partner institution must include it in the Certificate of Attendance). To this end, it is advisable to keep a copy of travel documents (tickets, boarding passes, etc.). Students who intend to return to Italy are invited to follow the guidance provided by the Italian Foreign Ministry (http://svi.viaggiaresicuri.it/approfondimentiinsights/saluteinviaggio).
Students due to depart
Force majeure applies to student mobility that has been cancelled. The procedures for any reimbursement of expenses incurred will be communicated later. To this end, it is advisable to keep a copy of the documents relating to expenses and any refusal of reimbursement by the airlines. The European Commission has granted the option of postponing mobility to the next academic year (first semester) on condition that the host universities agree.
Traineeship Mobility
When circumstances permit (see the Prime Ministerial Decree and the Covid-19 emergency), students may undertake mobility for the purpose of traineeship, subject to agreements with the host institution. With regard to students whose graduation sessions have been postponed, in the event that it is not possible to postpone these placements, they may undertake placements for the purposes of traineeships for which they have been selected as recent graduates.
Placements for Lecturers and Staff
Force majeure applies to teacher mobility that has been cancelled. The European Commission has also granted the option of postponing mobility to the next academic year (first semester) on condition that the partner institutions agree.
