The video game sector is expanding worldwide, and in Italy there is also interest in this industry, which includes a number of professional roles such as graphic designer, 2D and 3D artist, 2D and 3D animator, VFX artist and sound designer, mostly from art academies and universities.
This workshop was created with the aim of providing the students of the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome with a window of observation and direct practice with this world in order to expand the professional opportunities of the courses on offer and provide an experience to broaden their knowledge.
The workshop will be a hands-on session aimed at the design and creation of a stylised character for video games, starting from the concept and progressing to the implementation of a customised sound design linked to the character.
During the study days, all the steps necessary for the creation of the character will be addressed. The topics covered will be: the creative process, artistic direction, the design of a turnaround and a pose for a character in 2D, and the reproduction/transposition of the concept in 3D in low poly format with the corresponding creation of a hand-painted texture. In addition, the character will be enhanced through the creation of customised sound effects and sound environments in order to enrich the gamer’s experience in the game context, learning to design sound effects that integrate with the character’s visual design.
The workshop days will be divided as follows:
27/02/2024 Giacomo Scoppola (creation of the 2D character, from concept to realisation)
28/02/2024 Giacomo Scoppola and Silvia Agosti (transposition of the 2D character into the 3D model)
05/03/2024 Silvia Agosti and Carlo Tuzza (Definition of the 3D model with texture and creation of the presentation video, concept of the character’s sound effect)
06/03/2024 Carlo Tuzza (use of tools for the creation of the sound effects associated with the character and optimisation of the sounds)
