Workshop held by Studio Giano
The workshop on ancient photographic techniques held by Studio Giano is an opportunity for the students of the Academy of Fine Arts to get to the heart of the processes that gave rise to photography.
Participants will learn the Gumoil printing technique, learning how to process their shots to create digital negatives, how to make the photosensitive emulsion and then how to contact print the final image.
The second part of the workshop will focus on the wet collodion technique, and students will use the optical bench to shoot, develop and fix photographs on glass plates as in the 19th century. The time spent during the workshop will be captured by each student using solarigraphy, a modern application of the ancient pinhole technique.
The workshop will have a theme on which a collective project will be developed, with an exhibition planned at the end of the workshop period.
Once familiar with the ancient techniques, participants will be able to reproduce them in personal projects and experiment with the processes in a creative way.
