On Saturday 4, Monday 6 and Tuesday 7 May, the workshop curated by Prof. Maria Pina Bentivenga, Prof. Tania Campisi and Prof. Malia Finocchiaro, “Etching with light”, will take place for students enrolled on the three-year and two-year Graphic Arts courses.
For three days, students will be able to engage with Devin Kovah, an artist and teacher at Temple University in Rome. The workshop will be based on experimentation with photopolymer materials in engraving. The lecturer will present the students involved with his own methodology for the use of photopolymer films and plates. The chosen theme on which students will be able to develop the images will be: “the structure of light”, and they will be able to choose whether to use photographic images or drawings. The workshop aims to broaden knowledge of new materials in the field of engraving techniques and the search for new expressive methodologies. On the first day, work will begin at Temple University, the workshop and the technical/artistic research to be undertaken will be presented, and the first experiments will begin. On the second day, the processing and printing work is scheduled to take place in room 011 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome. On the third day, there will be a group critical session on the work carried out and the results obtained. At the end, an artist’s book will be produced in a limited edition of 5 copies.
