Giovanni Timpani Workshop Limited edition
curated by Ferdinando Fedele
The workshop offers an artistic and cultural journey in the field of graphic arts, aimed at learning about and practising traditional original art printing through the production of limited edition art prints.
The activity offers the opportunity to learn about and explore art graphics in the innovation and developments of contemporary artistic and communicative processes, giving participants the opportunity to have direct contact with the very rich artistic production of one of the best-known international graphic arts companies, the Stamperia e Casa Editrice “Il Laboratorio/le edizioni”.
The training experience will engage students in the design and creation of graphic works through the traditional and experimental processes of engraving techniques and art printing, making them aware of the multiplicity of creative processes in the production of a valuable art edition. Each student will have the opportunity to get in touch with the practices of graphic and publishing art, approaching the variety of execution phases in the production of a reproducible work, with the possibility of profitably grasping the functions and qualities in the value of the individual copy produced and the effectiveness in the multiple copies produced in series.
Following a theoretical-methodological approach, students will be involved and guided in the design of an art portfolio produced in numbered and signed copies containing the graphic designs
produced by the artists; a copy of the edition will become part of the collection of “Il Laboratorio/le edizioni” and will be kept in the large archive of graphic designs that the publishing house has been hosting
for more than forty years.
How the activities are carried out:
• Presentation of the archive of art editions of the publishing company il Laboratorio/le edizioni.
• Theoretical and demonstrative introduction to art editions.
• Conception and design of an art portfolio.
• Creation of works that can be reproduced in copies through graphic techniques: intaglio, engraving techniques and experimental printing.
• Production of precious original art prints.
• Creation of a limited edition art portfolio.
• Presentation of the production.
The workshop is aimed at a limited number of students (max 15) and is expected to involve 32 hours of activity.
