The hypothesis is that Rome is a complex form of life, a sympoietic eco-myth-system, with its own emerging organisation capable of spontaneously evolving and self-regenerating over time. A living reality, both mythological and ecological, with its own evolutionary history, characterised by the ability to include any otherness that might otherwise lead it to its end.
Thus Rome has always included wild nature, its alter ego Latium, and foreigners, cyclically summoned to regenerate the city on the hill of the Asylum. To these two devices for the inclusion of otherness, a third is added, the Mundus, or the cyclical ability to gather so much diversity in a unitary ecosystem, potentially eternal and infinite: the world city. Mundus is in fact a mythical founding device, a hole around which different communities gather, the navel of the city where future citizens pour a handful of soil from their place of origin, a rite based on displacement, with which to give life to a city that is not meant to be rooted in the earth or united by blood, but rather founded on the construction of a common open perspective of coexistence between different people.
We will explore the Mattatoio, even its most hidden spaces, its uses today and yesterday, as well as the different social and cultural realities that animate it on a daily basis. Each person will bring back something from their own exploratory experience and share it with everyone in a collective, assembly-like ritual, a Mundus, where stories, ideas and desires can intersect. What perspective can we share today at the Mattatoio?
