27, 28 and 29 September 2023.
27 and 28 September: from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
29 September: from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Research Night: from 3:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.

As part of EU4ART_differences, the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome is pleased to announce the A.Re Days, three days entirely dedicated to research (27-29 September 2023) which for the first time see the participation of the Roman institution in the European Researchers’ Night. Three years of planning on an international scale are being celebrated, as well as important goals achieved in recent years by the institution in the field of research, including the doctorates in New Technologies for Cultural Heritage and Performing Arts established in 2022.

Meetings, conferences and seminars will take place in the Academy’s spaces at the Campo Boario site and online in a lively and varied series of events. The topics range from cultural heritage to particle physics, from Artificial Intelligence to the experience of collective intelligence with HOLOLENS viewers, and much more.

The three days will open on 27 September with presentations of some joint projects of the European Alliance related to research and dissemination, including publications and festivals, followed by the “Peers’n’ differences”, a format devised by the Academy of Fine Arts in Dresden that facilitates meetings between researchers of different generations and countries for an intellectual exchange on their respective studies and ongoing projects.

28 September will be entirely dedicated to New Technologies for Cultural Heritage, the research topic of one of the two doctoral programmes that have just been launched at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome.
Experts working in institutions of excellence, such as the Vatican Museums, the Istituto Centrale per la Grafica and the National Institute of Nuclear Physics, will delve into the creative and conservation processes, cataloguing and data access, which link technology to artistic research.

The day of 29 September will kick off the European Researchers’ Night.
The morning will host the first lecture of a single-subject course on Artificial Intelligence and an evaluation of the methodologies applied to the laboratories conducted as part of the EU4ART_differences project, curated by the European evaluation agency EQ-Arts.

The European Researchers’ Night will open in the afternoon of 29 September with the Research Challenges, three duels between art and science where nuclear physicists and artists will debate on matter, creativity, data, and other trans-disciplinary topics.

This important event will be an opportunity to present to the public the projects of CARE – Creative Artistic Research Ecosystem, a transdisciplinary laboratory between art and science launched in January 2023 with a partnership between the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome and the National Institute of Nuclear Physics (INFN) Roma Tre section. As a result of these first months of collaboration between the two institutions, the following will be unveiled: Collisioni, a project that brings the public closer to the motion of particles, and Necessità e Mistero, a sound journey resulting from the cognitive dialogue between art and science.

In addition, the mixed-reality interface of °’°KOBI, created as part of EU4ART_differences, the workshops of the partners of EU4ART_differences (Budapest, Dresden, Riga), and the interactive installation Risonanza [#1], the result of a project created within the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome, will be presented.

Starting this year, the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome is an associate partner of LEAF – heaL thE plAnet’s Future, a project coordinated by Frascati Scienza and promoted by the European Commission dedicated to the European Researchers’ Night.

The lectures will be conducted in person in English. It will be possible to participate in the events on the Teams online platform by registering at the following links:

A.re Days is an event promoted by EU4ART_differences, an EU-funded project that aims to develop and promote Third Cycle artistic research with a transdisciplinary approach to society, knowledge and critical thinking. The project team, led by the HfBK in Dresden and supported by the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome, the Art Academy of Latvia and the University of Fine Arts in Budapest, is collaborating on the construction of long-term research infrastructures and working on the design of new art education programmes for students and researchers.
