The Academy of Fine Arts in Rome meets Giacomo Matteotti for the project “Matteotti’24”, one hundred years after his assassination.
Presentation of the biography and thought of Giacomo Matteotti by the historian Claudio Modena.
During the conference, the actor and playwright Antonio Sanna will read some documents by Giacomo Matteotti.
On 10 June 1924, a group of fascists kidnapped Giacomo Matteotti on the Lungotevere Arnaldo da Brescia. There was no escape for the Venetian deputy, and the discovery of his body was a severe blow to the regime, which almost seemed to falter. Even today, it is not certain whether the instigator was Mussolini.
One hundred years after his tragic death, the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome has decided to sponsor the creation of a volume with the aim of using art to tell the story of a figure who sacrificed his life to defend freedom from the fascist dictatorship, and to promote an exhibition of works by students and teachers.
Some of the works will be included in the volume that will be presented at the institution’s premises and in certain locations throughout Italy. The exhibition will be hosted in Veneto, Matteotti’s birthplace.
