Cycle of International Seminars with the scientific collaboration of the Memofonte Foundation of Florence and the patronage of the National Edition of the works of Federico Zuccari of Rome

The Series of International Seminars Mapping Ideas: Identifying, Describing, Defining | The Conceptual Lexicon of Renaissance and Baroque Art Theory in Europe, before and after Federico Zuccari’s Writings, conceived, coordinated and directed by Vita Segreto and Marco Bussagli, is produced by the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome with the scientific collaboration of the Memofonte Foundation of Florence and the patronage of the National Edition of the works of Federico Zuccari of Rome.

The four seminars that make up the cycle aim to initiate a reflection on the history of artistic ideas and ‘the lexical structures in which they find expression in the European tradition’, through a mapping of the key concepts of art theory in Europe between the 16th and 18th centuries. Starting from the writings of Federico Zuccari, the cycle aims to reconstruct, on a philological and genetic basis, the theoretical physiognomy, the background and the philosophical, linguistic, literary and artistic implications, as well as the material and immaterial networks and paths of transmission and circulation of the ideas and concepts considered.

The Mapping Ideas seminars will be held in person (a remote link is available), once a month, from 11 November 2022 to 24 February 2023, at the Sala Colleoni – Aula Magna of the Academy of Fine Arts in Via di Ripetta 222 – 00186 Rome.
